About the Unit

Parking BadgeOver the last decade, the City of Fremont has seen tremendous growth in population and a change in its landscape as more areas are being developed into not just housing, but also to include mixed-use type projects. These changes have had an impact on parking issues throughout the city, and there is expected to be additional parking-related challenges as the city continues to grow. Fremont Police Department for years has discussed having a team of personnel dedicated solely to enforcing parking rules, and in January 2021, the Department rolled out its brand-new Parking Compliance Unit to deal with such activity.

Falling under the umbrella of the Traffic Unit, the Parking Compliance Unit is currently composed of two Parking Compliance Officers (PCO) and a Parking Compliance Specialist, which is a special assignment for the Community Service Officer (CSO) rank.

The Parking Compliance Unit works seven days a week and focuses primarily on:

  • No Stopping Zones
  • Bus Zones
  • Areas with Timed Parking restrictions (9 a.m. to noon / 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., etc)
  • Timed Parking (15 minutes, 2 hours, etc)
  • Vehicles parked too close to Fire Hydrants
  • Blocking Driveways and Crosswalks
  • Ensuring permit compliance in areas such as Mission Peak and the Centerville Train Depot
  • Expired Registration.

The unit also supports and works with the other members of the Traffic Unit whose duties include handling the warning, citing or removal of vehicles deemed abandoned, or parked in excess of 72 hours.

General Parking Complaints should be reported to the Traffic Unit at (510) 790-6760, or through the Web Site via the Abandoned Vehicle Form.
