Who are CSOs? 

Community Service Officers (CSOs) are non-sworn personnel who enhance the productivity and efficiency of the Police Department by handling service calls that do not require the presence of an armed police officer. Community Service Officers have the privilege of a fulfilling career serving the Fremont Community.  They provide non-sworn police services in crime prevention, investigation and response, and assists sworn peace officers in various non-sworn related duties. CSOs have the opportunity to work various roles throughout the department including Patrol, Traffic, Crime Scene Investigator, Missing Persons Investigator and Volunteer Administrator.

  • Interview victims and document statements
  • Prepare collision reports/diagrams
  • Receive reports of commercial, residential and automobile burglaries, petty theft, grand theft, found property, abandoned bicycles, missing persons, auto theft, and other crimes with no known suspects
  • Conduct initial crime investigations and prepare reports of findings
  • Investigate vandalism
  • Serve subpoenas
  • Identify and enforce traffic and parking ordinances
  • Respond to animal control emergencies as needed when Animal Control is off duty
  • Identify, tag and tow abandoned vehicles
  • Identify and remove a variety of traffic hazards
  • Perform traffic control
  • Respond to and investigate traffic complaints
  • Issue parking/equipment violation citations
