Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision

FPD investigates fatal hit and run traffic collision on March 9, 2021

Post Date:03/16/2021 11:49 AM

On Tuesday March 9th at approximately 6:00 a.m., Fremont Police and Fremont Fire personnel responded to the intersection of J Street and 2nd Street regarding a man lying in the roadway.  Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway and immediately provided medical aide.  The pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center where it was determined his injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.  Richard Plasch (81) resident of Fremont sadly succumbed to his injuries on Monday March 15, 2021. Richard was walking his dog at the time of the incident.

Traffic investigators located several surveillance cameras in the area and one of the cameras captured a dark colored vehicle, possibly a minivan, traveling west on J Street towards 2nd Street.

A second vehicle was seen traveling west on J Street and then possibly making a U-turn at J and 2ND Streets.  The vehicle is then seen traveling east on J Street towards Niles Blvd. There the vehicle made a right turn and was last seen traveling south on Niles Blvd. This vehicle appears to possibly be a Light Pewter Metallic (gray) or Sunset Gold Metallic (gold), 1995 - 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-door SUV.

Investigators would like to talk with the driver or persons who may have been in either vehicle, and may have seen the deceased walking his dog.

Fremont Chief of Police Kimberley Petersen offers her sincere condolences to Mr. Plasch’s family.

This is Fremont’s 2nd fatal traffic collision investigation in 2021.
