During the community meeting staff will discuss the following:
- Clarify animal limitations for chickens and permit goat and beehive ownership in areas zoned residential.
- Definition and clarity of shelter and shelter maintenance requirements for chickens, goats and bees.
- Updating the anti-rabies vaccination age to 3 months for dogs to stay current with changes in state law since the last Animals Ordinance amendments in 2018
- Giving the animal services manager discretion to waive redemption costs of impounded animals in cases of financial hardship if the fees would impose an economic hardship for the owner.
- Recommending that the disposition of an impounded animal be reduced from four business days to three calendar days
- Remedy an inconsistency between animal regulations regarding dog leash length in Title 6 Animals, and Chapter 12.20 regarding parks.
Questions and answers will be limited to these topics.
Currently, opportunities are also available on MyFremont for community members to register on our newly launched platform to share input on a proposed update to the existing animal ownership ordinance, which would allow Fremont residents the ability to have additional chickens, goats, and bees on residential properties.
